Frozen Moments contains 51 images, in an 8 1/2x11 format
of 40 pages. There are 2 vellum end sheets, a back cover image,
a portrait, the colophon image, 22 small images on the facing
centerfold pages, and the main selection of 24 large images. With the exception
of the portrait and one Gasparcolor print, every image in this book has been
printed as a carbro print. 13 of the images were exhibited
in the J. Paul Getty Museum show "Command Performance"
featuring the work of Paul Outerbridge, whom Dick knew.
The images are largely taken from 5x7 on-shot camera negatives, a few with 4x5 view camera negatives, and others from darkroom separations of Kodachrome tranparencies. The text includes an introduction, glossary, a detailed description of the carbro process, a transcription of Mr. Miller's interview regarding carbro, an example of the tri-color pigment process including negatives, bromides, pigment tissues, and the step by step transfer of the pigment gelatins. In addition there is a list of the prints exhibited at the Getty, and a biography of Mr. Miller. The two centerfold pages contain small reproductions of carbro images that were not included among the main selectiion of prints. |
